Will Mazda ever make a hydrogen-powered vehicle?

The next few years are almost guaranteed to contain a flurry of advancements in automotive technology that hasn’t been seen since for a few generations. Most automakers, including Mazda, are always on the lookout for ways to make vehicles cleaner and more fuel-efficient. As it happens, a recent article posted on the Road and Track website seems to believe that Mazda already has the expertise it needs to be a leader in the industry. So, will Mazda ever make a hydrogen-powered vehicle? For American buyers, that is unclear at this point; but the manufacturer did briefly tow with this technology in its native Japan. Can I add smartphone apps to any Mazda vehicle?

A few months ago, Mazda announced that it would be providing owners of certain trims of the 2018 Mazda6, the chance to have Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ capability retrofitted in their vehicles. Naturally, we and many of our customers were very excited to hear this news. However, the team of product experts working in the Gorman McCracken Mazda showroom started to receive a lot of calls, text messages and emails from other customers wondering, ‘Can I add smartphone apps to any Mazda vehicle?’ As of a few days ago, we can start calling them back with good news. Is Mazda bringing back the Wankel rotary engine?

Remember the Mazda RX-8? It was sleek, quick and had one of the most revolutionary powertrains found in the entire automotive industry. The automaker shuttered RX-8 production back in 2011, taking its unique engine with it. It doesn’t happen as much anymore, but we occasionally get people coming into the Gorman McCracken Mazda showroom asking, ‘Is Mazda bringing back the Wankel rotary engine?’ An informational release from Mazda seems to allude to a very strong possibility of this happening in the future. A possible re-emergence of the Mazda rotary engine is a single and important element to the automaker’s long-term goal of drastically reducing carbon monoxide emissions that come from its vehicles.
