Is premium gas worth the investment? Maybe.

Should I be using premium gasoline in my Mazda car or crossover SUV?

Have you ever pulled up to the gas pump and wondered what those different numbers mean next to the prices? Well, those numbers are that fuel’s octane rating. Octane is a fuel additive that helps keep the fuel stable and prevent the engine from knocking. This knocking sound is actually the fuel spontaneously igniting which can cause engine damage in the long term. If you’ve been wondering, ‘Should I be using premium gasoline in my Mazda car or crossover SUV,’ the maintenance experts at Gwatney Mazda of Germantown have the answers. If you have any questions about the best way to take care of your vehicle, please stop by our maintenance department today. We’re happy to help. Read the rest of this entry »

Something new could be coming wearing the familiar Mazda3 badge

When is the Mazda3 getting redesigned?

Mazda has really carved out a special spot in the automotive industry with its lineup of sleek sedans, hatchbacks and crossover SUVs. But times change and customer tastes change. As we were walking around the showroom today, it occurred to us that the Mazda3 has been rocking the same exterior style for quite some time. Someone actually wondered out loud, ‘When is the Mazda3 getting redesigned?’ A quick search of the internet answered our question — sort of. We were able to find this teaser photo of a potential Mazda3 refresh, but we don’t know much else about it. Our manufacturing partner is wisely being tight-lipped about the whole affair. This teaser video comes on the heels that it looks like Mazda is considering the prospect of maybe bringing back rotary engines. We aren’t saying these things are connected, just interesting. Is Mazda bringing back the Wankel rotary engine?

Remember the Mazda RX-8? It was sleek, quick and had one of the most revolutionary powertrains found in the entire automotive industry. The automaker shuttered RX-8 production back in 2011, taking its unique engine with it. It doesn’t happen as much anymore, but we occasionally get people coming into the Gorman McCracken Mazda showroom asking, ‘Is Mazda bringing back the Wankel rotary engine?’ An informational release from Mazda seems to allude to a very strong possibility of this happening in the future. A possible re-emergence of the Mazda rotary engine is a single and important element to the automaker’s long-term goal of drastically reducing carbon monoxide emissions that come from its vehicles. How is Mazda turbocharging technology different?

A turbocharger has long been associated with high-performance cars. By increasing the amount of air and fuel that can be burned by an engine allows for a noticeable increase in horsepower and torque. A lot of automakers, including Mazda, have been adapting this technology to smaller and more efficient engines. This has allowed modern vehicles to not only produce more power but also do so without compromising fuel efficiency. If you’re curious about how Mazda turbocharging technology is different than other automakers, the video embedded below makes things very easy to understand. There are several new Mazda models that use this feature. You can schedule a test drive today with a Gorman McCracken Mazda product expert by calling, 903-686-9319. Read the rest of this entry »

Outdated car myths that are costing you money

Today’s cars, trucks and crossover SUVs are so advanced that about the only thing they share with their ancestors are four wheels and the classification of an automobile. Beyond that, technology has changed our vehicles so much that they are more akin to rolling computers than machines powered by internal combustion engines. In addition to those changes, the way we think about purchasing and maintaining our vehicles have also taken huge leaps forward. Our service and financing teams got together to write up this guide to help people save money in ways they might not have otherwise considered when dealing with their vehicles.
