The 2026 Mazda CX-5 arrives as a far more mature machine than the one it replaces, shaped by thoughtful engineering rather than superficial flourishes. It takes what drivers in Longview already appreciate about Mazda —balance, precision, and a certain understated polish—and carries those qualities into a cabin that is both more spacious and more intelligently arranged. The result is an SUV that feels composed and purposeful on the move, yet entirely accommodating when life demands practicality. Redesigned Comfort and Intelligent Technology Mazda has focused heavily on proportions this time, widening and lengthening key areas of the cabin to create meaningful gains in space. Rear doors open wider, rear-seat legroom grows, and the cargo bay now has greater depth, making everyday tasks—loading groceries, stowing gear for the lake, or seating tall passengers—far easier than before. Materials feel more deliberate, more carefully selected, and the driving position is unmistakably Mazda: centred, intuitive, and easy to settle into. The previous infotainment layout makes way for a new 12.9-inch touchscreen that feels cleaner and quicker to respond. On upper trims, Mazda offers a 15.6-inch display—its largest yet—with Google built-in to streamline navigation, voice commands, and app use. Updated steering-wheel controls ensure essential functions remain within comfortable reach, a detail that reflects Mazda’s ongoing emphasis on minimizing distraction rather than merely adding more features. Performance That Balances Power and Efficiency Under the bonnet sits the familiar Skyactiv-G 2.5L 4-cylinder producing 187 hp and 186 lbs. ft. of torque, and while the figures read modestly, the way the engine delivers its effort remains one of the CX-5’s defining qualities. Power arrives cleanly and predictably, the engine settling into an easy rhythm on the open road. Standard AWD lends confidence during heavy rain, loose gravel, or the occasional winter cold snap, helping the CX-5 maintain composure where front-drive rivals might begin to wander. Mazda has also refined the ride, reducing harshness while preserving the brand’s trademark responsiveness. It creates an SUV that feels neither soft nor brittle—just quietly capable, even on the imperfect surfaces common across East Texas. Advanced Safety for Peace of Mind Mazda’s i-Activsense® suite remains the backbone of the CX-5’s safety strategy. Blind Spot Monitoring, Forward Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert all contribute to a sense of calm rather than intrusion. The hardware observes discreetly and intervenes only when required, maintaining the driver’s confidence without dulling the experience behind the wheel. Trim Levels to Match Your Priorities Mazda offers the 2026 CX-5 in S, Select, Preferred, Premium, and Premium Plus. Each step introduces a little more convenience, a little more comfort, and a little more of Mazda’s quietly premium atmosphere. Even the lower trims deliver the essentials with surprising generosity, while top versions add items such as ventilated seating, a panoramic sunroof, and upgraded audio. Whichever configuration suits your needs, the fundamentals—balance, clarity, and well-judged ergonomics—remain consistent.
